Mary Evelyn Williams Hill

August 31, 1942 — February 18, 2025

Canton

Mary Evelyn Williams Hill passed away on February 18, 2025, after a short, but courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was surrounded by her daughters and first granddaughter. Mary is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mary was born in Guilford County, North Carolina. She was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church. Mary retired from Andrex Industries after 17 years of dedicated service. Mary loved "her" mountain in Crabtree, she longed to be on her "mountain" one last time in her final days. Mary adored her 3 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always felt that they were her greatest accomplishment. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Johnnie Vance Hill, her parents Hoyle and Ruby Williams, and several brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish Mary's memory are two daughters, Mistie Haney (Paul) of Clyde, and Sandra Gibson (Ricky) of Canton; her son Danny Hefner (Lisa) of Waynesville; her bestfriend of 65 years whom she thought of as a sister, Ruby Goins of Shelby; sisters Ora, Frances, and Kathy; brothers Paul, Max, Tony and Gene; and sister-in-law, Louann Evans, 8 grandchildren, Chrystal Cordell, Heather Hefner (Zac), Justin Gibson (Kayle), Jessica Florvilus (Mikkei), Makayla Thomas, Lauren Sutton (Dylan), Kris Haney (Mahaila) and Bethanie Haney; as well as 16 great-grandchildren, Kadence, Jaxon, Brielle, Dakota, Samuel, Camden, Lukas, Alek, Haven, Hazel, Morallis, Carter, Shepherd, Elijah, Nathaniel, and Cierra.

A funeral service for Mrs. Hill will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 2pm in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton with Paul Haney officiating; a visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Gibson, Justin Gibson, Paul Haney, Dylan Sutton, Bruce Medford and Chad Shipman. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Goins, Charlie Evans, Dakota Cordell, and Camden Cordell.

Mary will be deeply missed, but know that she is at the feet of Jesus and wants everyone to meet her there one day.

The care of Mrs. Hill has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
