Mary Israel

Candler – Mary Lou King Israel, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2013 at her residence. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Herschel and Myrtle Muse King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Israel who died in 1980; and a great granddaughter, Julia Shaye Israel who died October 7, 2013. She was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed traveling, working in her flowers, and decorating for Christmas. She loved especially spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Gnelle Israel of Candler, Virginia Bell and her husband, Ray of Asheville and Jolanda Phillips and her husband, Tim of Candler; a son, Ed Israel and his wife, Pam of Candler; three brothers, Fred King and his wife Audrey, Mack King and Wallace King and his wife, Vronda all of Candler; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
