Mary Keener

Waynesville, Mary Frances Ferguson Keener, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at her residence with her family by her side. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William McKinley and Catherine Muse Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Lyman Hal Keener, who died in 2013; and also by four sisters, Ruby Alden, Edna Harker, Bonnie Hanson and Claudine Greene; as well as three brothers, Ralph, Mike and Danny Ferguson. Mary was employed for many years at Lea Industries, rising to the management position of Controller. She retired in 1989. Mary and Lyman were married for 67 wonderful years and together they enjoyed entertaining guests on their back porch, spending time in Florida and cheering on their favorite team, the Atlanta Braves. They were mentors and confidants to their many nieces and nephews. Mary will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Mary is survived by a sister, Judy Shirley and husband, Beuford, of Waynesville; four brothers, Gerald Ferguson and wife, Betsy, James Ferguson and wife, Juanita, Eugene Ferguson and Terry Ferguson and wife, Nancy, all of Waynesville; three sister-in-laws, Peggy Johnson and her husband, Al, of Niceville, Florida, Barbara Keener of Buffalo, New York, and Brenda Galloway, of Waynesville; a brother-in-law, Jim Keener and wife, Evelyn, of Miami, Florida; 54 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Wells Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Beuford Shirley and George Galloway eulogizing. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
