Mary Mason

Mary Catherine Mason, age 89, died Friday, December 8, 2006, at Canton Christian Convalescence Center. She was a native of Worcester County, MA and had resided in the Center Pigeon community of Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Amato Spatters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Mason, who died in 1996. Mary was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, was very active with Canton's Senior Center and whenever she had a free moment, she loved to walk. She is survived by two step-daughters, Gail Murphy and her husband, Dennis, of Auburn, MA and Linda Smathers and her husband, Phillip, of Canton; three step-grandsons and a step-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Father Dennis McGowen officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Linda and Phil Smathers.
