Mary Milner

May 21, 1936 — June 15, 2009

Waynesville, Mary Jo Hembree Milner, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Memorial Mission Hospital. Born in Buncombe County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Edna Browning Hembree. She was a law secretary for Glenn Brown and Bill Milar. At the age of 12, she began playing the piano at Grandview Baptist Church, where she was a member, and continued to play there throughout her life. Mary Jo also enjoyed genealogy and recorded the church history year after year. Above all else, her family was very important to her, and she especially loved her grandsons. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald Milner; two sons, David Milner of Dallas, Texas and Steve Milner and his wife, Sherri, of Waynesville; one sister, Susie James, of Presque Isle, Maine; two grandsons, Tanner and Clay Milner; nieces, Mary Elsa Theobald and Jill Brekke; and nephew, Richard James. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Sisk officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grandview Baptist Church, 1562 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
