Waynesville-Mary Lou Moody, age 93, died on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Homestead Hills Assisted Living in Winston-Salem. A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Winston-Salem for the past four years, she was the daughter of the late Lucius B. and Leona M. Caldwell Leatherwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dick Moody, who died in 1961; a brother, Hugh Leatherwood; and a sister Folsom Messer. She graduated from Asheville Teaching College and taught in Haywood County Schools for 39 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, United Methodist Women, Haywood County Retired Teachers Association, and volunteered with the Blood Mobile. She enjoyed gardening and won several awards for her flowers. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Moody Stevens, and her husband, Bob, of Winston-Salem and a granddaughter, Alice Stevens Matthews, and her husband, Dr. Kevin Matthews, of Bahama, NC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend Kathleen Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
