Mary Pless

Mary Weaverette Parker Pless, age 85, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Way and Nora Freeman Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lewis Pless, who died in 2000. She was a LPN and worked for 15 years at Crawford Nursing Home. Weaverette loved square dancing and eating at Dixon's Little Boy. She was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church. She is survived by a son, Butch Pless (Chris); two daughters, Noreen Nelson and Dawn Pless Shook; two sisters Dorothy Burke and Grace Lewis (John); a brother, Wayne Parker; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Kitchen in Canton, P. O. Box 513, Canton, NC 28716.
