Mary Raper

Waynesville – Mary Martha Ensley Raper passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center. A native of Haywood County, she previously resided in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Spurgeon and Nancy Robinson Ensley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Raper, who died in 1989 and a brother, James Richard Ensley, who died in 2013. Mary was a graduate of Canton High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received her secretarial degree. She was employed as an administrative assistant for an insurance company and an attorney. Mary was also a former financial secretary at the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by a daughter, Paula Stout and her husband, Kevin, of Shippenville, Pennsylvania; sister, Elizabeth Illingworth and her husband, Marr, of Lake Junaluska; grandson, Larry J. Stout, also of Shippenville; and two nieces and two nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
