Mary Rogers

Waynesville – Mary Reece Rogers, age 92, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Zemmery and Mae Haynes Reece. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Martin McLain Rogers who died in 1995; a daughter, Lynda Rogers Gibson, who died in 2013; a son-in-law, Gordon Gibson, who died in 2010; a sister, Louise Reece Deaver; and two brothers, Lon and Von Reece. Mary was a long time employee of Martin's Drug Store and was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church where she served as choir director. She enjoyed gardening and growing roses. She is survived by a daughter, Rikki L. Rogers of Waynesville; two sisters, Gwen Lanning of Oregon and Gayle Reece West of Wicomico, Virginia; two brothers, Reverend Don Reece of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Dean Reece of Santa Maria, California; five grandchildren, Channing Gibson (Vicky), Wendy Jo Ferguson (Todd), David Martin Gibson (Mary Ann), Lisa Gibson (Kellie) and Nic Gibson (Jessica); nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday May 7, 2017 at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with the Reverend Martha Welch officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
