Waynesville, Mary Helen Cross Stovall, age 74, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Wake County, she had lived in Haywood County since 1958. She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Mabel Scarborough Cross. In addition to her parents, was preceded in death by a son, Dewey Stovall, III, a brother, Hubert Cross, and a sister, Winifred Karangelen. She attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte where she earned her degree in nursing. She served as a Girl Scout leader, voter precinct worker, and was a founding member of the Tuscola-Waynesville Band Boosters. Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and Faith Sunday School Class. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George Dewey Stovall, Jr.; two daughters, Susan Stovall Fender and her husband, Matthew, and Karen Stovall McClure and her husband, Steve; one son, William Tucker "Will" Stovall and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Daniel, Emily, and David Fender, Molly, Sadie, and Isley McClure, and Jordan and Katie Stovall; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford Giles, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Adkins, John Barrett, Chuck Reece, Dan Messer, Chris Davis, Curt Furtado, David Stovall and Randy Fie. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O.
