Mary Summey

Canton-Mary Margaret Jenkins Summey, age 84 died Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at her residence.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late George and Celia Nelson Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Gordon Earl Summey who died in 1989. She was a charter member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Summey was a homemaker and loved her family and her church.

She is survived by two sons; James Edward "Jim" Summey and his wife Geneva of Mocksville, NC, Roger Dale Summey and his wife Judy of Greensboro, NC, three daughters, Doris Ann Glance and her husband Reeves of Fair Play, SC, Barbara Jean Gardner and her husband Ron of Jamesville, NC and Joyce Amelia Sawyer and her late husband James of Canton, one sister; Rosalee McDaniel of Candler, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and 17 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Ronald Gardner and Reverend Louise Stamey officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home.
