Mary Treadway

Canton - Mary Ann "Annie" Rathbone Treadway, age 97, of 20 Watts Street died Monday April 23, 2007 at Smoky Mountain Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late William and Cora Green Rathbone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolphus L. Treadway who died in 1961; one son, Hugh "Buster" Treadway; one step-daughter, Doris Henson; and one grandson, Michael Rhinehart; six brothers, Herman, Norman, Walter, Dennis, Doug and Cromer Rathbone; three sisters, Daisy Garren, Lora Ray and Bernice Summey and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Treadway. Annie was employed with Canton Laundry and she loved her flowers. She was the eldest member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the VFW Post #5198. She is survived by three daughters, Shelba Browning and her husband, Glenn, of Canton, Catherine Bradshaw and her husband, Grover, of Waynesville, and Patricia Shook of Clyde; two sons, Dolphus "Red" Treadway, Jr. and James Treadway and his wife, Ruth, all of Canton; daughter-in-law, Delores Treadway of Pueblo, CO; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jarvis Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Haywood County Meals on Wheels, 486 East Marshall Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. The family would like to express their gratitude to Margaret Woody, Betty Jones and Beth Ferguson, for the special role they played in Annie's life. At other times the family will be at Annie's residence on Watts Street.
