Mary Robinson Ward

Mary Robinson Sorrels Ward, a beloved member of the community, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 23, 1927, in Haywood County to the late John Curtis and Lillie Morgan Robinson.

Mary led a fulfilling life in which she made significant contributions both personally and professionally. After completing her education at Canton High School, Mary embarked on a successful career as a bookkeeper. She worked diligently at Sears & Roebuck retail sales and Canton Insurance Agency, where her impeccable skills and dedication made her an invaluable asset.

Throughout her life, Mary experienced joy, love, and loss. In addition to her parents, she mourned the loss of three late husbands: Boyd Sorrels, Gordon Sharp, and Lester Ward. Mary also said goodbye to her sister Marie Jones and one grandson Jimmy Sorrels. The memories of these cherished individuals will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.

Mary leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured by those she loved most dearly. She is survived by a loving daughter, Patricia Ruth; a son, Ron Sorrels (Joan); and a sister, Martha Rhodarmer (Scotty).

The love between Mary and her three grandchildren, Christy, Heather, and Garrett, was immeasurable. Their laughter and joy brought light into Mary's life and created memories that will be cherished forever. Mary's love extended to her six great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and warmth during their time spent together. She adored them dearly and embraced the role of a proud great-grandmother.

Mary Robinson Sorrels Ward will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. Her determination in the face of adversity serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Sarah McIntosh officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC  28716.

As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, let us carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. May Mary rest in eternal peace, knowing that she made a profound impact on all those fortunate enough to have known her.
