Mary Wilkinson

September 12, 1919 — December 12, 2008

Lake Junaluska, Mary Anna Brown Wilkinson, age 89, of Crescent Drive died peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Beaufort County, NC, she had resided in Greensboro, NC before moving to Haywood County in 1971. She was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Leta Berry Brown and was also preceded in death by her husband, Allen S. Wilkinson, who died in 2005, and one brother, Thaddeus Brown. Mrs. Wilkinson was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, where she was a member of the Asbury-Wesley Class and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a former member of the Tuscola Garden Club and enjoyed bridge, gardening, and was active in her community. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly W. Schwarzkopf of Broken Arrow, OK and Maleta W. Griffin and her husband, Woody, of Lake Junaluska, and one brother, John Kenneth Brown and his wife, Lois, of Redwood City, CA; four grandchildren, Robert Schwarzkopf and his wife, Patti, of Pompano Beach, FL, Jennifer Brumley and her husband, Thomas, of Moore, OK, Matthew Griffin and his wife, Kim, of Woodland Hills, CA, and Alec Griffin and his wife, Jessica of Mandeville, LA; and five great grandchildren, Cameron and Riley Clark and Hadley and T.J. Brumley, all of Moore, OK, and Gracyn Griffin, of Mandeville, LA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells, Reverend Dr. Garland Young, and Reverend Kathy Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Private interment services will be held at Green Hill Cemetery. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, and for her kind and selfless heart, her gentle spirit and her faithfulness to her church, family, and friends.
