Waynesville, Mary Watson Winchester, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at The Homestead. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late James Pritchard and Emma Jane Brown Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Ed" Winchester, who passed away in 2004 and a brother, Ray Watson. Mary was a very loyal and devoted woman to her family, friends and church. She was always there for anyone in need, but never hung around for a pat on the back. Mary loved growing a big garden every year only to give everything away to friends and neighbors and always had a place for anyone for Sunday dinner. She loved to be in charge and control the task at hand and rarely was Mary ever wrong on any given subject. Mary moved at a fast pace and enjoyed life. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Mary always had a dog that she treated like one of the youngins-as she would say. Mary's main joy was always her son, Charles Edward and her grandkids. We will all miss Mary Winchester, but will always cherish our memories of her. She is survived by a son, Charles E. Winchester of Asheville; two sisters, her twin sister, Margaret Jarboe, of Bluefield, West Virginia, and Pearl Gill of Grantsville, Maryland; one brother, John Z. Watson, and his wife, Jean, of Long Beach, Mississippi; two granddaughters, Dusti Cox and her husband, Matt and Katelyn McFarren and her husband, Keely; and two great-grandchildren, Maleah and Brooklyn Cox. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Melissa Lowe and Reverend Susan S. Giles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
