Mary Wood

Mary Catherine "Honey" Wood, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Cornelia Raines Wood. She was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. She was a member of Plains United Methodist Church. Mary Catherine was an accomplished quilter and seamstress. She was able to persevere with her passion throughout her illness. She is survived by a son, T. Branson Wood; a daughter, Selina Denise Naik and her husband, Narayan; a sister, Geneva Schwink; four grandchildren, Aaron and Mark Wood and Priya and Akash Naik; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Wood, who was the shining light of her later years. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Phillip Hurst and Reverend Michael Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
