Waynesville, Mary Lillian Watson Smith, 93, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023.
A native of Grainger, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Thurman H. and Sarah Cochran Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Smith, who died in 2009; son, David Edwin Smith, who died in 2013; four sisters, Evelyn Morgan, Betty Hall, Charlene Horner and Shirley Fulton; two brothers, J.C. and Junior Watson. Lillian was employed by Dr. Ted Rogers for 14 years and retired in 1984. She is a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church. Lillian was one of the founding members of the Foggy Mountain Cloggers from 1979-1994. She was a seamstress who made all of the uniforms for the clogging team, was an avid gardener and an outstanding cook and baker. Lillian was a loving mother, wife, nana, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was everything to her.
Lillian is survived by a daughter, Mary Evelyn Green (Carl); three sons, Daniel Edward Smith (Shirley), James Carol Smith (Leslie) and Richard Eugene Smith (Cathy); daughter-in-law, Libby Smith; two brothers, Jim Watson (Dorothy) and Bill Watson (Florene); special granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Burnette (Dwayne), grandchildren, Chad Gaddis, Christopher Smith (Jocelyn), Donavan Smith, Cameron Smith, Cody Smith (Samatha), Triston Smith, Nathan Smith, Melissa Pullman (Phillip), Christopher Curran and Jack Curran (Amanda); twelve great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, Maggie.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist church with Pastor Ben Shaeffer officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
