Mason Cucumber

Mason Cucumber, Jr., age 55, died on Friday, July 3, 2009, at Mission Hospitals, Memorial Campus. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Mason Allen and Lucy Ann Lambert Cucumber. He was a member of Payne's Chapel in Sandy Mush where he served on the finance committee and enjoyed singing in church. He is survived by a son, Jason Cucumber of Charleston, SC; a stepson, Dennis Benson of Swannanoa; three sisters, Mary Cole (Bob), of Leicester, Reva Brown and her husband, Don, of Cherokee, and Frances Cucumber of Leicester; two brothers, Toby Cucumber of Leicester and Tony Cucumber (Grace) of Arden; a granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and cousin and friend, Frank Cucumber. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Wells Funeral Home of Canton and also beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Monday at the Water Falls Baptist Church in Cherokee where the body will remain. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Water Falls Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Robinson and the Reverend Bo Parris officiating. Burial will follow at the Welch Family Cemetery on Dobson Ridge in Cherokee. Memorials may be made to Payne's Chapel, 22 Sandy Mush Creek Road, Leicester, NC 28748.
