Mattie Killian

Maggie Valley, Mattie Knight Killian, age 89, of Campbell Creek, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Cash and Callie Jane McGaha Knight. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Robert Killian, who died in 1992; her daughter, Dorothy Edwards; one sister, Nettie McElroy; and two brothers, Smith and Lewis Knight. She worked at the Living Waters Motel for 38 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maggie Valley. Mattie loved listening to gospel and bluegrass music and enjoyed cooking and being with her family. She is survived by one daughter, Harriet Jimison and her husband, Charles, of Canton; one son, Robert Killian and his wife, Darlene, of Waynesville; two sisters, Sally Ketner and Ruth Moody, both of Waynesville; a son-in-law, Verlin Edwards of Maggie Valley; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Erma Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Thomason, Scott Sutton, Howard Morgan, Bear Messer, and Tim, Victor, and Chris Carver. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until Noon on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
