Mattie Ramsey

April 12, 1922 — September 20, 2014

Maggie Valley, Mattie Rich Ramsey, age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Smoky Mountain Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland and Minnie Knight Rich. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ramsey, who died in 1993; a son, Jimmy Ramsey; five sisters and two brothers. Mattie worked for 37 years in the lunchroom of Maggie Valley School. Mattie enjoyed spending time in her garden, but her family was most important. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Ramsey, of Maggie Valley and Gary Ramsey and wife, Bobbie Lou, of Waynesville; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Rich Hill cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith, Jacob and Dakota Waldrop, Tyler Ledford and Cody Ledford, Jacob Blanton and Jeremy Burrell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
