Mattie Sawyer

Mattie Bailey Sawyer, 84, of Weaverville passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Keever Solace Center. She was a native of North Carolina born in Madison County to the late Nancy E. Presnell Bailey and the late Willis Furman Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband Morris in 2006, two sisters and 5 brothers.

Mattie was a Sunday school teacher for most of her adult life. She was a member of Middle Fork, Grassy Branch and Edgewood Baptist Churches. She was a great musician and gospel singer. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing and gardening. She was an extraordinary loving mother and friend.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Sawyer of Arden; Glenda Sawyer of Weaverville; son, Terry Sawyer Sr. of Albertson; two grandchildren, Terry Sawyer Jr. and Allen Sawyer; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3PM Wednesday, March 24th in the Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn, Candler with Rev. Cindy Coleman and Kermit Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the park.
