Maggie Valley, Mattie Sue "Lady" Hughes, 86, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023. Born on March 16, 1937, she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
Lady Hughes was well-known for her selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need within the community. She had a warm heart and a compassionate spirit that endeared her to those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her acts of kindness were not only appreciated but also remembered by all who experienced her unwavering support.
Apart from her altruistic endeavors, Lady Hughes had a passion for cooking. She greatly enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, where she unleashed her creativity and talent to create delicious meals for others to enjoy. Her culinary skills brought joy and comfort to countless individuals who were lucky enough to sample her delectable dishes.
Lady Hughes was born to the late Benjamin and Florence Fie Moody. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Lovedahl and three brothers, William Moody, Dave Moody, and Robin Moody.
Lady Hughes is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Jack Hughes. Together they created a lifetime of precious memories filled with love and companionship. Their bond served as an example to their family and friends of what true love looks like.
In addition to Jack, Lady Hughes is survived by her two sons, Scott Hughes and Stephen Hughes. Their lives have been forever enriched by their mother's unconditional love and guidance. She was not only their mother but also their confidante and friend; someone they could count on in times of both joy and sorrow. Lady Hughes will also be fondly remembered by her brother, Robert Moody (Margaret), as well as three adoring grandchildren and three cherished great-grandchildren. With each generation, Lady Hughes' legacy of love and kindness will continue to be passed down.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Lady Hughes' life will take place on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley located at 3634 Soco Rd, Maggie Valley, NC 28751. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.

The care of Mrs. Hughes has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
