Maude Clampitt

Canton-Maude Howard Clampitt-88 died Monday, November 11, 2002 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Swain County but had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Texas Flynn Howard and was the wife of the late Renfro Loftin Clampitt who died in 1996. She retired from Champion International and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Helen Sherrill of Canton, Edith Buchanan of N. Augusta, SC, Shirley Bailey of Asheville, two sons, Clifton Clampitt of Canton, Jimmy Clampitt of Cullowhee, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2002 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Otis Clampitt and Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road in Canton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Helen Sherrill, 49 Wesley Street, Canton, NC 28716.
