MAUDE B. REED

Waynesville-Maude Baker Reed, age 94, formerly of Lake Junaluska, died Sunday, January 19, 2003 at her residence.

A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Luther H. and Flora Ashe Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Reed, who died in 1966. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harlan, Claude, and L. H. Baker. She graduated from Almond High School and later from Western Carolina University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in primary education. She taught elementary education in Swain, Jackson, and Haywood County. She was a member of Waynesville First Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher for the Senior Department. She was a former member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church in Sylva.

She is survived by two sons, H. Thomas Reed, and his wife, Patricia, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Charles B. Reed, and his wife, Sally, of Asheville; a sister, Dorothy M. Baker, of Asheville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 in the chapel of Waynesville First Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Lovett and Reverend Joseph Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Old Field Cemetery in Sylva. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
