Max Palmer

July 2, 1952 — November 29, 2012

Waynesville, Max Robert Palmer, age 60, of 234 Blazing Trail, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Thomas Alvin and Georgia Mae Moody Palmer. Max was a self-employed farmer and trader and was a member of the Cattleman's Association. Max was very friendly and outgoing and deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him and had a special way of connecting to his friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and cherished each and every day, always looking on the bright side of life. Max attended Long's Chapel United Methodist Church and will be deeply missed by all his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sylvia Palmer; one daughter, Stacy Lindsey and her husband, Brad, of Clyde; one son, Jimmy McMahan and his wife, Wendy, of Lake Junaluska; two sisters, Judy Palmer and Peggy Phillips, both of Waynesville; seven grandchildren, T.J. Weaver, Brittany, Justin, and Cayden McMahan, Lana Rhodes, and Jake and Cooper Lindsey; one great-granddaughter, Anna McMahan; and his special pet companions, who were always at his side, Ginger, Kito, Sierra, and the late Brandy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Charles W. "Chuck" Wilson, II and Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Cochran, Jimmy McMahan, Brad Lindsey, Ralph Messer, Justin McMahan, Martin "Tacho" Anastisio, Donald Phillips, and Van Allison. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to the ARC of Haywood County, 407 Welch Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
