Maxine Leatherwood

February 6, 1929 — March 24, 2008

Waynesville, Maxine Ellen Snyder Leatherwood, age 79, of 3963 Jonathan Creek Road, died on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Grace Mae Bowlin Snyder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Medford Leatherwood, Sr., who died in 2005 and one sister, JoAnn Lindsey. Maxine was an active member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where she held various leadership positions including Secretary of the Administrative Council for many years. An avid singer and lover of music, she was a member of the church choir and participated over the years in other local choral groups, such as Carolina Choral. She is survived by one son, Jack Leatherwood, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Waynesville; one daughter, Luanne Webb and her husband, Rick, of Cary, NC; one sister, Carolyn Harrill, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and four grandchildren, Jason Leatherwood and his wife, Melissa, John Leatherwood, and Richard and Jackson Webb. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Linwood Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
