Maxine Mease Queen

Maxine M. Queen, 96, passed away on February 16th, 2025, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

Maxine was born in Canton, N.C. to Frank Mease and Tulen Henson Mease. She was also preceded in death by her husband, D.B. Queen, and sisters, Louise M. Reno and Frankie Ruth M. Queen. Maxine had fond memories of growing up on Henson Cove Road with her sisters and having aunts, uncles, and cousins living in the same community.

She was a graduate of Bethel High School and, as a youth, was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Later, she had been a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Known as “Mac” to her sisters, nieces, and nephews, she enjoyed staying in touch with her extended family through cards, phone calls, and family gatherings.

After retiring from Belk-Hudson/ Belk with thirty-three years of service, Maxine greeted customers and friends at the produce stand on her son’s farm for several years and spent many hours canning and freezing fresh vegetables from the farm for her family to enjoy year-round. Before moving to Autumn Care three years ago, she looked forward to neighbors, friends, and family visiting on her back porch and always had a fresh pot of coffee for them.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Q. Loftis and Richard S. Queen (Beth), and was a doting grandmother to Scott Loftis (Laura), Sherry Loftis-Hall (Mike), Drew Queen (Jessica), and Brody Queen (Lyndsay). She is also survived by her adored great-grandchildren, Evan Loftis, Eric Loftis, Carter Hall, Izzy Queen, Marley Queen, Zeik Queen, chosen great-grandchildren Hazel and Judah Litty and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Care and Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and support.

A Family Graveside service for Maxine and her husband, D.B., has been planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, N.C. 28716.

The care of Mrs. Queen has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
