Maxine Reece

Loving, Caring and Compassionate Waynesville – Maxine Johnson Reece, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Mission Memorial Campus. She was a native of Avery County, and the daughter of the late Staples Clinton and Mary Early Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Reece who died in 2008 and two sisters, Therisa Hayes and Sarah Miller. Maxine was a talented crafter, excellent cook and maintained a beautiful flower garden. She crocheted many scarves and afghans for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Maxine's heart and soul belonged first, to her Lord and second, to her loving family. She will be remembered for her nightly Bible times, her babysitting, and her unconditional love for her family and friends. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Warren and her husband, Alan, Anita Mills and her husband, Sam, and Mary Phillips and her husband, Barry all of Waynesville; a son, Keith Reece of Canton; two sisters, Betty Burleson and her husband, Ralph, and Doris Turbyfill, and her husband, Jerry, all of Newland, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Travis and Andrew Warren, Jennifer Ashe, Amber Reece-Young, Molly Reece, Tiffany McKinnish and Adam Phillips; 11 great-grandchildren, Joey, Jacob and Faith Ashe, Lydia and Noah Warren , Lily and Carsen Warren, Willow Reece-Young, Lukas Ledford, Eli McKinnish, and Harper Phillips, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday January 17, 2016 at Riverside Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Reece Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
