Maxine Sorrells

Canton – Maxine Browning Sorrells, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at her residence. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late George and Nola Warren Browning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Browning Davis; and three brothers, Harold, Bruce and Jay Browning. Maxine was a special lady who was adored by all who knew her. She kept an immaculate home and enjoyed canning, painting beautiful ceramics that were admired by many. She also enjoyed listening to her radio and dancing while working in the kitchen. Maxine was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She loved her family and was especially fond and proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years, Frank Sorrells, Jr.; her daughter, Sandra Sorrells Swanger of Bethel and her fiancé, Jess; two sons, Dale Sorrells and his wife, Janice, of Mills River and Steve Sorrells and his wife, Phyllis, of Bethel; her sister, Ruth Sorrells; her brother, Roy Browning and his wife, Donna; eight grandchildren, Melanie Brookshire, Jeremy Wilson, Josh, Lucas and Lea Sorrells, Jeanna Sorrells Johnston, April Sorrells Bryson and Robin Sorrells Reeves; fourteen great-grandchildren; special niece and caregiver, Annette McElrath; and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jesse Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Wilson, Josh and Lucas Sorrells, Brady and Dillon Brookshire and Forrest Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton and Sawyer Reeves, Ben and Jake Bryson and Brock Sorrells.
