"Loving Mother" Candler – Maxine Morgan Thompson, age 83, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at her daughter's residence. A native and lifelong residence of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Farrell and Ethel King Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bascombe Thompson, who passed away in 1981; and a sister, Carolyn Swayngim and her husband, Charlie. She was employed by American Enka Corporation, Citizen's Fuel and Walmart in her later years. Maxine lived life to the fullest. Many things brought her joy including working in her flowers, enjoying the companionship of her animals, the innocence and smiles of children and going on rides to view the beauty of her beloved mountains. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer for many years at the Charles George VA Medical Center and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, but attended Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church in Leicester. Maxine is survived by a daughter, Debra Thompson Holcombe and her husband, Keith, of Candler; two sisters, Doris Odum and her husband, Jim and Linda Taylor and her husband, John all of Candler; many beloved nieces and nephews; her special animals, Maggie, Winchester, Daisy and Misty. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Keith Holcombe, Reverend Paul Sluder, Reverend Joseph Sluder and Reverend David Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
