Mckinley Burris

August 14, 1922 — December 10, 2012

Bethel, McKinley Paul Burris, age 90, of Pigeon Road, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at his residence. A native of Graham County, he had resided in Haywood County for the past 61 years. He was the son of the late George and Myrtle Crisp Burris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ina Sawyer, Loye Kennedy and Ella Mashburn; five brothers, Floyd, Ferrell, Harley, Ray and Willie Burris; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Cade Smith. McKinley was owner of Burris Landscaping and a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church in Graham County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working and watching the Atlanta Braves. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Lee Burris; three daughters, Faye Norman (Douglas) of Crestview, Florida, Karen Kimbel of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Sandra B. Cooke (Daryl) of Canton; three sons, David Burris (Susie) of Waynesville, Keith Burris (Sherry) of Canton and Randy Burris( Debbie) of Bethel; one sister, Dare Rogers (Doyce) of Waynesville; one brother, Landon Burris (Bonnie) of Waynesville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous fishing and hunting buddies. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Cemetery in Almond. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Siske, Josh Burris, Alan Arrington, Seth Ervin, Tommy Reece and Michael Bradshaw. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
