Canton - McKinley "Mack" Bryson Ledbetter, age 75, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Jonathan P. and Allie Chambers Ledbetter. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Mack retired from the BASF Company in 1993 with 41 years of service and served as president of the American Enka Union from 1966-1967. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and had an undying love for the mountains and trails of North Carolina. Mack assisted and volunteered with the U.S. Forest Service trimming trails and was featured on WLOS Outdoors with Bob Caldwell. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ethel Watts Ledbetter; three daughters, Deborah Riggeal and her husband, Greg, of Gettysburg, PA, Lorna Ashe and her husband, Denton and Verda Davis and her husband, Richard, all of Canton; one son, Doyle Ledbetter of Canton; two brothers, Jay and Roy Ledbetter, both of Waynesville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at Riverside Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Foster, Reverend Wayne Carson and Reverend Dr. David M. Odom. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowes, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
