Mease King

Canton-Mease Hall King, age 92, of King Cove Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph's Health Systems.

Born in Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Pless and Ida Scruggs Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Garfield King; twin brothers, Jesse and David Hall, brothers; Richard,Jesse and Howard Hall; and sisters, Ruth Hall and Lizzie Hall.

She was a devoted homemaker who dearly loved her family and was the oldest charter member of Harmony Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church regularly and church family was very important to her.

She is survived by sons, Robert Lewis King and wife Linda Sluder King, and William Calvin King and wife, Peggy James King; three daughters, Willie King, Betty King Miller, and Patsy King Smith and husband, Raymond Russell Smith, all of Canton; two sisters, Ethel Muse and Lulu Taylor both of Candler; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 at Harmony Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Winfred Bennett, Reverend Jeff King and Reverend Dallas James officiating. Mrs. King will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Betty Miller, King Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716. Serving as pallbearers will be David, Doug, and Darrell Smith, Jeff and Alan King, Andy Conard, Donald Hall. Ed and Bill Hall will serve as honorary pallbearers.
