Waynesville- Melton "Tim" Harbin, 56, formerly of 523 Golf Course Road, died on Saturday, February 04, 2006. A native of Mecklenburg County, son of Dr. Melton Edward and Hilda Hutcherson Harbin, of Waynesville. He graduated from Senior High School in Monroe, NC, in 1967, and then went on to get his B.S. Degree from High Point University. Tim volunteered for the United States Navy on August 10, 1971, and served aboard USS Tattnall (Cruiser-Destroyer) out of Mayport, FL, that entered ports all over the world including Leningrad, Russia, then on August 6, 1975, was honorably discharged. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. Tim loved golf, was an avid Duke basketball fan, and had a passion for reading and mathematics. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Karen Harbin, of Greensboro, NC; two nephews, Matthew Harbin Bowles, Adam Hutcherson Bowles, and his wife, Chasity. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend Ed Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the church. Inurnment will be at the Christ United Methodist Church of Greensboro's Columbarium the following Sunday, February 19, 2006. Memorials may be made in honor of Tim to the Building Fund of The First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, P.O. Box 838, Waynesville, NC 28786.
