Melvin Reed

Waynesville, Melvin H. Reed, age 54, of E. Marshall Street, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at his residence. Melvin was a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota and had lived in Haywood County since 1973. He was the son of the Edward E. Reed of St. Cloud, MN and the late Helen Bartz Reed who died in 2006. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Reed, and a sister -in law, Arlene Reed. Mel was well known as an incredible wood craftsman known for log cabin work. He was an avid downhill skier and loved bluegrass music. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Robin Collins Reed, of Waynesville; three sisters, Phyllis Schwinghammer, and her husband, Donald, Annette O'Byrne and her husband, James, and Sandi Roketa, and her husband, Stan, all of St. Cloud, MN and two brothers, Raymond Reed of St. Cloud, MN and James Reed and his wife, Barb, of Rice, MN and his faithful dog, Mac. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
