Michael Kenowski

Maggie Valley, Michael J. Kenowski, 54, formerly of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, lost his brief fight with cancer on May 11, in Maggie Valley, NC. He graduated from high school, class of '74, where he was an outstanding member of the track and cross-country teams. Mike served our country in the U.S. Army and after receiving his honorable discharge in 1976, he moved to South Florida where he owned and managed a bicycle shop. He met Madeleine Schneider in Ft. Lauderdale, and they got married in Switzerland in 1979; they had one child, Frederic. Mike joined his father and brothers in business for a while, until he decided to move to North Carolina where he started a cabin rental business with his wife. He was a master at fixing and building things, and he was good at eBay. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his son Fred (Elissa), his mother, Irene; brothers, Cary, Bruce (Aisha) and Brian (Colette); nieces Kristi, Alexa, Anastasia, and Ashleigh. Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Gregory, Sr. (2002); and brother Gregory, Jr. (1971). A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held for Mike on Monday, May 16, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
