Waynesville, Michael Dale Sawyer, age 50, of Carpenter Way, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness on Monday, March 7, 2011 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was son of Annette Wells Sawyer of Canton and the late John Dale Sawyer. He was also preceded in death by a son, George Michael Sawyer, who died in 2010. Michael was a writer for Thunder Comic Book and the co-creator of Larry The Hippopotamus. Michael was quick witted and enjoyed his computer, making gag gift boxes and bringing apples to the DaVita Dialysis patients. He was an amazing story teller and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carolyn Sawyer; one daughter, Caroline Michelle Sawyer of Waynesville; a sister, Lisa Phillips and her husband, Darrell, of Bryson City; a brother, Jeff Sawyer and his wife, Julie, of Ft. Worth, TX; a nephew, Adam Smith of Waynesville; a niece, Audrey Sawyer of Greenville, IL; a niece and nephew, Juliet and Hayden Sawyer of Ft. Worth, TX and special friends; Bebe Abel, Willie and Micki Cope, James and Karin Lyle, Joe Bob and Ora Lee Rogers, and Michael's faithful companion, Sebastian, all of Waynesville. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville. Reverend John Lindsey will officiate.
