Michael Yantes

Waynesville, Michael Lee "Mike" Yantes, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Rockbridge, Ohio, he was the son of the late Homer Eugene and Ruth Immel Yantes and was also preceded in death by his wife, Joneita Yantes, who died in 2012. Mike selflessly and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was also actively involved in the Marine Corps League and was a member of American Legion Post 47, VFW Post 5202 and the Haywood County Veterans Council. Mike simply enjoyed people. He made countless friends during his more than 20 years at Contel, where he worked as an equipment supervisor. He also enjoyed socializing over coffee at Clyde's Restaurant, Duval's and Connie's Kitchen. Mike was an avid camper and loved to learn new words, so much so he read the dictionary for fun. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. Mike is survived by four daughters, Katherine Ann Chestnut and Michelle Falk and husband, Charles Jr., of Waynesville, Ann-Marie Yantes of San Francisco, California and Bonnie Bond, of Asheville; two sons, Rick Allen Yantes and wife, Debbie, of Waynesville and Barry Bond of Franklin; a brother, Don Yantes and wife, Donna, of Rockbridge, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Billy and Matthew Gibson, Raven Chestnut, Richard and Brian West, Kristian, Cory, and Alexandria O'Kelley, Bryanna Falk, Elizabeth Pate, Chris Stewart and William Bond; and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:30 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Flowers are appreciated and memorials may be made to the Veterans Council of Haywood County, P.O.
