"1930 - 2017"

Canton - Mickey Farmer Pruett, 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Halbert and Belle Brown Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Burnette and Lucy McFee; one brother, Henry Farmer; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Paige West. Mickey was a 1947 graduate of Bethel High School where she was Salutatorian and cheerleader. She was a sparkling encourager to all who knew her, a supporter of the arts and sciences, and a proponent of all things positive. Throughout the lives of her children, she urged them to think creatively, develop passion and share compassion. Mickey could have done anything with the beautiful mind she had, but she chose the path of a mom and wife. She was a prolific writer and a lifetime lover of poetry. Following is her Haiku she wanted as her epitaph:
"And with the last match, I light a stick of incense… smoke spirals upward…", written on September 27, 1994."

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ray L. Pruett; two sons, Marc Pruett and wife, Anita, and Reverend Matt Pruett and wife, Karen, all of Canton; five grandchildren, Zachary Pruett of Hendersonville, Callie Pruett and husband, Jeremy Stephens of Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth Pruett of Greenville, SC, Amy West and husband, Todd, of Essex Junction, Vermont, and Reverend Christopher Pruett and wife, Ami, of Canton; and six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ellie, Matalin, and Hannah West, Eleni and Anneke Pruett.

Private services will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood County Meals on Wheels, 157 Paragon Parkway, Clyde, NC 28721.
