Mildred Ball

Mildred Bailey Ball, age 85, of Lambert Lane went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital following an extended illness. Mildred was born in Yancey County and raised in Buncombe County but had resided in Haywood County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late John Biss and Dessie Worley Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Ball who died in 1977; a brother, Jake Bailey; a nephew, David Rash; a great nephew, Jonathan Lankton and a brother-in-law, D. R. Sluder, Jr. She retired from Ingles and she was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Mildred is survived by a son, Robert Michael Ball and his wife, Deborah of Canton, a stepdaughter, Barbara Ball Ponder and her husband, Clyde of Fruitland Park, FL; a stepson, Larry Ball; two sisters, Peggy Rash and her husband, Herbert of Asheville, and Shirley Sluder of Asheville; a brother Jack Bailey and his wife, Martha of Lakewood CA; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Daniel Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander . The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
