Mildred McElrath Brown, age 67, of Chambers Mountain, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late, D. G. and Ennie Henderson McElrath. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. T. and Reeves McElrath. Mildred spent a great part of her time serving Beulah Baptist Church where she was a member. She taught Sunday school for 25 years, sang in the choir, and was an active participant in WMU. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Brown, of Clyde, two daughters, Lisa James and her husband, Terry, and Sandy Cheek and her husband, David, all of Clyde; and four grandchildren, Tasha Hincy and husband, Jared, of Nashville, TN, Tyler James and Ashley and Adam Cheek. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Virgil Holloway and Reverend Matthew Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Sandy and David Cheek. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, 483 Sunset Circle, Canton, NC 28716.
