Mildred Ann Cabe

Mildred Ann Cabe, 84, of Sylva, N.C. went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 7, 2025. Mildred was born to the late Nelson Wykle and Lillie McMahan.

She grew up attending Locust Field Baptist church in Sylva but was a long-time member of Galbreath Creek Church in Bryson City, N.C. She loved her church and church family and couldn’t wait to worship with them.

She loved planting her garden every year and you could always find her working in it every day in her bare feet. She loved canning and preserving food for her family. She was a former foster parent and loved every child that came into her home like they were hers. She spent her life taking care of children. Her favorite color was purple, and she enjoyed going to yard sales and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 30 years, Rev. Wade Fox, three sisters, Juanita Brooks, Thelma Hodgins and Hester Wykle, her nephews Eddie Hodgins and Ronnie Buchanan.

Surviving is her best friend and husband of 37 years, Keith Cabe whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her children Doug (Darlene) Fox, Mike (Rita) Fox, Darrell Fox, Gina Fox and Amber (Travis) Fox. She is survived by a special niece Kathy Buchanan who she loved her whole life as well as Donna Stephens. She is survived by her six grandchildren Kristy (Michael) Hopkins, Blake (Beth) Fox, Camille Fox, Cheyenne Fox, Jordan Fox and Cayley Fox. She is survived by great grandchildren; Alannah Hopkins, Breanna Ogle, Timothy Ogle, Lyra Fox, Jade Fox, Kyra Fox and Arizona Fox. She is also survived by her adoptive grandchildren Kelly (Dakota) Shapiro, Jacob Pressley, Peanut, Maddie, Wyatt Sims, and all the other children that she ever kept and loved. She is survived by her earthly angel, Paula Bishop.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Locust Field Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Fox, Rev. Gary Moore and Rev. Brandon Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The care of Ms. Cabe has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
