Mildred Gifford

March 10, 1923 — February 23, 2011

Waynesville, Mildred Smith Gifford, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Smoky Mountain Rehabilitation Center. A native of Moore County, she grew up in Richmond County and was a prior resident of Clermont, Florida. She had resided in Haywood County for the past three years and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Martin and Dorothy Beatrice Hight Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Gifford, and one son, Samuel D. Haddock. Mildred will be remembered for her upbeat, happy personality. She enjoyed cooking and was a fabulous gardener, who had a perfect green thumb. She also loved fishing but most of all, she enjoyed fixing meals and sharing time with her family around the table. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Hipps and her husband, Bruce, of Waynesville; four sons, Larry Haddock and his wife, Deb, of Florence, South Carolina, Grady Haddock and his wife, Glenda, of Black Sheur, Georgia, Dale Haddock and his wife, Subriena, of Waynesville, and Donald Haddock and his wife, Darla, of Ft. Myers, Florida; one sister, Alma Carriker, of Ellerbe, North Carolina; grandchildren, Samantha, Logan, and Danielle Haddock, Cheyanne, Charles, and Cheryl Easterling, Wayne Comdeco, Diana Gray, and Jessica Wheeler; and stepchildren, Ray Gifford, Kim Gifford Noack, Sam Gifford, and Kathy Gifford Bartoli. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Charles W. Chuck Wilson, II. and Reverend Bill McNeill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. prior to services in the church sanctuary. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont, Florida. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
