Canton – Mildred Elizabeth Lance Jimison, age 86, went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2015 at St. Joseph's Campus of Mission Hospitals with her family at her bedside. She was born and raised in Haywood County by her mother and father, William Arthur and Rosie Wiley Craine Lance, who preceded her in death. Mildred was also preceded in death by her husband Claude "Billy" Jimison, who died in 2011; two brothers, Clyde and J.P. Lance; one sister, Rosalee Lance; and three brothers, Carroll, Vernon, and Arvestus Smith. She volunteered her time to Haywood County Meals on Wheels. Mildred was most happy at home raising her three sons with the love and discipline of a devoutly Christian woman. When she was not at home, she involved in various activities with Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was considered a grandmother to so many and a faithful friend to all. Her love for the Lord and whole hearted witnessing to all proved to be one of the greatest memories she leaves behind to each person blessed enough to have simply met her. To meet her was an opportunity to be endowed with her faith and love of the Lord and she shared it with any and all who would give her the moment. Mildred sang in the church choir for as long as she was able and relished in her love of music and opportunity to worship and rejoice through music. Once her boys were raised, wed, and had families of their own, she opened her arms wide to her grandchildren. Mildred always made time to spend with them and care for them. She insured that they receive the benefit of knowledge and love for Christ that each of them are proud of still. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Eugene and Brenda Lance, Sherrill and Pam Lance, all of Clyde, and Danny and Devonne Jimison, of Franklin; two brothers, Poley Lance and Claude "Buck" Smith of Canton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeff King officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
