Mildred Mease

Loving Mother and Grandmother Canton – Mildred Russell Mease, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Thomas Russell, Sr. and Annie Carnes Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Barry Shawn Mease; a step-granddaughter, Tammy Renee Fish; a sister, Sally Louise Russell, and a brother, Hugh Thomas "Tommy" Russell, Jr. Mildred was a dear lady who was always well put together and a polished dresser, enjoying wearing bright, cheerful colors. One of her joys in life was hunting for gem stone treasures of which she collected and found hundreds. She also enjoyed traveling and discovering new places, but was especially fond and proud of her Western North Carolina Mountains where she called home. She is survived by three sons, William "Billy" Mease, and his wife, Phyllis, of Canton, Miles "Monty" Mease and his wife, Charlene, of Marshall and David Brandon Mease, and his wife, Tammy, of Canton; a brother, Vernon Russell and his wife, Katy, of Clyde; two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Mease of Raleigh and Carson Shawn Montgomery Mease of Savannah; three step-grandchildren, Donnie Fish, and Daniel and Emily Smith all of Canton; and several nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend William "Bill" Terrell and Reverend David Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Fulbright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
