MILDRED RHINEHART PLEMMONS Waynesville-Mildred Rhinehart Plemmons, age 74, died at her home on Tuesday, November 23, 2004. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Annette Rogers Rhinehart of Clyde. She graduated from Clyde High School and received a BA Degree in Education from Women's College of the University of North Carolina, and a Masters Degree in Public School Music from Appalachian State University. She also attended Mars Hill College and Western Carolina University. She taught for the Haywood County School System at Hazelwood, Crabtree, and Clyde and was District 2 Director for the North Carolina Parent Teachers Association and president of the Haywood County PTA Council. She was chairman of the 1977 American Cancer Crusade and organizer of the "Soap for Vietnam Day" in 1966. She was a Cub Scout den mother for three years. She was elected to the Haywood County School Board and was the first woman to hold an elected office in Haywood County. She was co-owner of Plemmons Plumbing & Heating, Inc. with her husband, Perry, where she worked for 42 years. She was a member and past president of the Hugh Rogers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member of Waynesville First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and children's choir and was a member of the Clois Starnes Circle. Above all else, she was a selfless, loving, and devoted mother and wife. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Perry W. Plemmons; three sons, Kent J. Plemmons and his wife, Eileen, Keith J. Plemmons, and Michael P. Plemmons and his wife, Phyllis, all of Waynesville; a sister, Jewell Beall and her husband, Charles, of Clyde; three nieces, Cynthia Hyatt of Greenville, SC, Anna Beall of Clyde, and Margaret Pollock and her husband, Bill, of Raleigh; a great -niece and great-nephew, Anne and Alexander Pollock, both of Raleigh; two step-grandchildren, Bryan Lindsay and his wife, Denise, of Omaha, NE and Michelle L. Lindsay of Chattanooga, TN; and a step-great-grandson, Cody P. Lindsay, of Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend T. E. Robinett and Reverend Dr. W. T. Medlin officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Waynesville where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to services. At other times the family will be at the residence, 133 Monte Vista Drive, Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Wilton Rhinehart, William Pollack, Ted Underwood, Mike Corbin, Frank Chambers, Jr. and Harold Burch.
