Mildred Saunders

Waynesville-Mildred Bahr Saunders, age 85, formerly of 173 Church Street, died on Monday, November 19, 2007 at Mountain Trace Nursing Home in Sylva. A native of Berks County, PA and former resident of Philadelphia, she was born on May 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Tamie Deysher Bahr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lyle Saunders, who died in 1998. Mildred married her late husband in 1982 and later moved to Waynesville, where she loved the mountains and the cultural environment of the area. Mildred was an accomplished artist and loved drawing and immersed herself in many crafts. She also loved to read and spend time with her many friends. She is survived by one cousin, Gordon G. Bahr of Boyertown, PA.; stepson, Frank Lyle Saunders, Jr., of Salisbury; stepdaughter, Karen Saunders Richart of Longwood, FL; step grandchildren; and many personal friends who loved her. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Her ashes along with those of her husband will be scattered over the mountains that she loved. The family will receive friends immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786.
