Millie Thama Silver Hoglen, age 73, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late James Dimey and Fanny Mae Sisk Silver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted William Hoglen, who died in 1987; and a brother Arlie Silver. She was employed by the Haywood County School system as a cafeteria worker for seven years and a lifelong member of Canton First Baptist Church. Millie enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering at the church. She also was a blue ribbon winner for her canning abilities at the county fair. She is survived by two sons, Dale Hoglen and his wife, Julia, of Canton, and Robert Hoglen and his wife, Cynthia, of Hillsborough; three daughters, Karen Hoglen of Canton, Donna Clark and her husband, David, of Clyde, and Jennifer Hoglen and her fiancé, David Goldsmith, Jr., of Canton; two sisters, Winifred Leatherwood of Canton, and Doris Grooms and her husband, Ted, of Waynesville; two brothers, Richard Silver and wife, Rubeana, of Candler, and J.D. Silver and his wife, Janice, of Canton; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Canton First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
