Millie Vickery

Waynesville, Millie Marcus Vickery, age 98, died on Monday, September 2, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Blount County, TN, she moved to Swain County, NC at the age of three years where she lived for 31 years. She was the daughter of the late Alphonso and Elizabeth Proctor Marcus. She was married to William Frank Vickery and was widowed at the age of 34, leaving her to rear her four children. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Margaret Vickery Christensen and Barbara Vickery Mulkey. After the death of her husband, Millie moved to Knoxville, TN and then later to Waynesville, NC. She was employed by Wellco Corporation until her retirement in 1972. After her retirement, she trained workers for Wellco in Puerto Rico. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed working with crafts. Millie had a special heart for people and to know Millie was to love her. She was a patient at the Brian Center for seven years. She is survived by one son, William Larry Vickery, of Raleigh; one daughter, Ruth Vickery Hicks, of Waynesville and Largo, FL; five grandchildren, Mary Frances Hicks, of Alexandria, VA, Mike Angel of Poway, CA, Michelle Williams of Mercer Island, WA, Nicole Plucker of Lynchburg, VA, and Rodney Christensen of Winston-Salem, NC; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 6, 2008 at Lauada Cemetery in Bryson City, NC with Reverend Greg Cope officiating.
