Canton- Minnie Sheffield, 71, of 31 School Daze Drive, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 8, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong native of Haywood County, daughter of the late Homer and Mattie Cagle Sutton. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Pete" Sheffield, Sr., an Army Veteran of World War II, who passed away in 1989; three sisters, Annie, Molly and Nelly Francis and four brothers, James, T.A, John and Houston. Minnie was a homemaker and a member of The Baptist Faith Church. She loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Karen Sheffield Bradley, of Canton; one son, MSgt. Harold Sheffield, Jr., and his wife Lillie, currently stationed at Pope Air Force Base, NC; two-step daughters Debbie, of Georgia, Delores of Texas, two sisters, Georgia Setzer, of Canton, Mary Smith, of Cherokee; two brother, Ralph Sutton, of Maggie Valley, Gene Sutton, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Daniel, Davey, Chris and Shelby Sheffield, Toshia Bradley, two-step grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in the wells funeral home chapel with Reverend Wayne Sheffield and Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times will be at her daughter's home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Bradley, David Smith, Wilson Oocumma, Barry Reed, Ty Oocumma, and Rodney Sutton.
